Meet Coretta Scott #eBayAlumni

Meet Coretta Scott, Founder of haircare brand Lena Maye. We sat down to learn more about her business and her experience being a part of our eBay Seller Academy programme.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your business and your inspirations behind creating your business?

My name is Coretta Scott and I am the Founder and Director of Lena Maye. I create haircare products made with natural, gentle, and beneficial ingredients. Lena Maye is named after my grandmother as I have always been inspired by her and her use of natural ingredients for haircare.

I was inspired to create my business due the personal success I had with my own hair journey and I wanted to share my experiences with others so they too could gain hair success, and care for their hair in a healthy way.  I am a very giving person and it’s part of me to share and care.

Why did you feel it was important to create your business?

There is so much information about haircare however, I felt that some information was lacking about ingredients and techniques. I have always been approached by others - family, friends and strangers asking about my hair and haircare regime, so, I felt it was important to provide a platform and products for those who needed it.

I have personal experience and knowledge so I know the pains and challenges that can occur when embarking on your healthy hair journey, Lena Maye is here to help.

“I really do want people to love and cherish their hair and look after it in the best way possible to see it thrive and gain success.”

What made you apply for the BGF x eBay Seller Academy?

I wanted to connect with other businesses and entrepreneurs, whilst gain more exposure for Lena Maye and learn more from eBay and BGF.

As an alumni of the BGF x eBay Seller Academy 2022, how did the programme support your business?

It was great to learn more about eBay and all the tools that you can use to increase sales. It was also great to have a coach during this period, as well as connect with other ladies who had businesses.

“There was a real sense of togetherness and understanding and support within the BGF eBay Seller Academy.”

When you have a business that needs to be elevated to the next level the whole experience is great to elevate you and help you on your journey.

Has there been a time where you doubted yourself as a Founder and if so how did you navigate through it?

My business is run mainly by me with the help of some family members. Sometimes, I wonder if I can do more as I feel like I am not doing enough but reflect and say “I am doing the best I can for now…” I do take each day at a time and celebrate the successes I gain along the way as I know many small steps lead to bigger things – Patience and working smart is key.

Do you think you will continue to sell on eBay now that the programme has finished?

I will need to look at the best options and then decide whether Lena Maye will remain on eBay now the programme has ended – If it’s economically viable it’s likely I will continue selling on eBay.

What’s next for you and your business?

I have more new products to introduce to the range which I am currently working on. I also hope to increase advertising and marketing for Lena Maye so that it can reach more customers and spread the word .

“We’re a caring brand and our mission is to help others love themselves naturally and gain hair success.”

Any words of advice for those looking to start their own business and join our Seller Academy?

Have a clear purpose on what you are doing and why, this will make it easier when starting your business. Also, take advice from those who have success businesses. Work hard but more importantly, work smart and where possible try not to do everything yourself, as this will be impossible.

“Lastly, enjoy what you do and keep it going regardless of the ups and downs.

Thanks so much to Coretta for taking the time to share her experience with us! Check out Lena Maye by Coretta Scott.
